"ANOTHER ROADSIDE ATTRACTION"

Watercolor on Paper 21X29
The title pretty much says it all

For purchase information, contact Viewpoints Gallery, Makawao, Maui, Hawaii (808) 572-5979

"KIPAHULU TWILIGHT"

(Watercolor on Paper 21" X 29")

"... Anyway, please allow a comment or two re: your attachment. How do you do it? Truly amazing what you are doing with your watercolor. The depth of color is seldom seen in watercolor and you have combined this with a true grasp of visual phenomena. I read the house as white in the context of your time of day. The toned blue is in true relationship with all other colors and values, making the window a luminous light. Beautiful! Congratulations!" --Richard Nelson, Master Artist, Color Expert, and Teacher

"I painted this view of Kipahulu Hale as what I perceived it would look like at dusk . . . this after ten weeks of study with world renowned master watercolorist Richard Nelson. Mahalo Sensei!"

For purchase information, contact Viewpoints Gallery, Makawao, Maui, Hawaii (808) 572-5979

A ride to any of Maui's "local communities" will offer a multitude of artistic possibilities . . . none greater than a trip to Hana which inspired the artist's look at this quaint little hale on the road to Oheo Stream. --August 2006

"REUNION"
ART MAUI 2007

Private Collection

(Watercolor on Paper 21" X 29")

Carmen is always looking for inspiration from the people of Maui . . . Maui Land and Pineapple Company's Homecoming and Reunion 2006 offered a wealth of possibility with hundreds of interesting folks who look like someone we know. She says that's the fun part. "When someone says, 'I KNOW her!' I just smile because that means one of my paintings can be whomever you want it to be!"

"BUBBA"
(Watercolor on Paper 11X14)
Private Collection

FOR AMBER . . .
"When my daughter asked for a portrait of her dog, I thought I'd never be able to get into painting an animal portrait . . . truth was it was a blast! I loved it! Almost as good as a grandchild . . ."

(Watercolor on Paper 20X26)
WATERCOLOR MAGIC MAGAZINE WATERMEDIA SHOWCASE 2007 WINNER
Honorable Mention: Portrait Category

"On a recent visit to Paradise Flower Farm in January, 2006, it was a crisp Kula day . . . As I buttoned up my sweater, it struck me as ironic that these beautiful ladies stringing lei, surrounded by tropical flowers, were all bundled up as if in a mainland winter scene . . . the warmth of their laughter and generous welcome soon confirmed that, no matter the season, there is no place like home-- Maui No Ka Oi!"

"96708" Hui No'eau Juried Members Exhibition 2006

Watercolor on Paper (20X26)

"Debbie Faborito has been our 'mail lady' at the Haiku Post Office here on Maui for as long as I can remember. She always wears her welcoming smile and exemplifies the aloha spirit. It's one of those things that makes living in an area like Haiku so special . . . she knows her customers, greets us by name, remembers our stories as well as our faces . . . Debbie Faborito is an integral part of who we are as a neighborhood at Haiku, HI, 96708." -- Carmen Gardner, September, 2006

ART MAUI 2006
"ALOHA FROM CHING STORE"
(Watercolor on Paper 20X26)
Private Collection

"When I first moved to Maui, I remember visiting Ching Store as we toured the island driving from Kipahulu around the 'back side.' Since then, I have always wanted to paint the 'feeling of aloha' that I have had every time I have walked in the door . . . I finally got up the courage to visit and to ask Florence for permission to attempt to capture her kind and generous spirit . . . she modestly agreed. I now feel as though I have found a new friend . . . The greatest joy is to see how many people know her and comment on how much they love stopping by when they are in Keokea! Mahalo Florence!"

--Carmen Gardner, 2006

"TROPICAL SALSA"

(Watercolor on Paper 11X14)
