Plans are in place for a workshop with Mary Whyte, right here on Maui.


The workshop details are:

When: February 11 & 12, 2010— 9AM to 4PM with a break for lunch
Where: Makawao Union Church Community Hall
Cost: $250 per person
What: Still Life and Figure in Watercolor

Deposit: $125 Due no later than November 1st. Balance ($125) Due by December 15.

Mary Whyte is an internationally acclaimed watercolor artist. Her work is in many museums across the country:

MARY WHYTE featured for CBS television’s “Sunday Morning”

Mary Whyte, known for her mastery of watercolor, is to be the subject of CBS television’s “Sunday Morning”. “Sunday Morning” is a news magazine program, airing from 9:00 am – 10:30 am EST on Sunday mornings on the local CBS affiliate. Ms. Whyte is working on (50) paintings for a future museum exhibition entitled “WORKING SOUTH” - a series of portraits of southern American workers in vanishing professions. This work reveals an intimate portrayal of the lives of an America that is disappearing, a people that progress and outsourcing have left behind: cotton pickers, boat builders, textile mill workers, crabbers, the shoe shine man, and shrimpers. Mary Whyte is an artist, author and teacher. She is nationally recognized for her figurative watercolor paintings of the rural people of South Carolina. Whyte’s paintings have been exhibited in the nation’s most prestigious shows, and her work hangs in numerous private and museum collections. Mary has been recently featured in the magazines International Artist, American Artist, and at the Portrait Society of American conference in Washington, DC. This September she will be featured in the premier European watercolor magazine Art de L’Aquarelle.

This workshop offers students a continuing comprehensive look at the medium. We will study and review various washes, tools and techniques, providing students a solid understanding of the fundamentals necessary for successful painting in watercolor.

We will start from the very beginning, an in depth look at the basics: tools, washes, color and more. This six weeks is designed to provide the serious beginner with the info needed to embark upon an exciting adventure in watercolor!
These "hands on" workshops are designed to be fun and informative and will be held at Carmen's Haiku, Maui studio.
